JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 14, 2025) – University of North Alabama softball players
Hailey Jones and
Laura Leigh Wheeler were honored with postseason awards from the Atlantic Sun Conference on Wednesday, as both were selected to all-conference teams in a vote of the league's head coaches.
Jones, a four-year senior at UNA, wrapped up a storied career with second team all-conference honors. She becomes a three-time All-ASUN honoree after landing third team honors as a sophomore and junior.
As a senior, Jones batted .381 to lead the Lions. The second baseman from Summertown, Tenn. was the clubhouse leader in batting average, total hits (67), doubles (15), RBIs (46) and total bases (104).
For her career, Jones set the all-time school record for doubles this season. Her 56 doubles passed UNA Hall of Famer Jessica Liddy, who had 52 doubles from 2004-27. Jones also finished her career with 713 at-bats, matching the all-time record set by Lindsey Greene from 2005-08.
Wheeler, a junior outfielder, was voted to the third team in her first season in the ASUN.
The Wallace State transfer finished the season strong with a .376 batting average from the cleanup spot, adding 10 doubles, two triples and seven home runs for a .599 slugging percentage. In right field, Wheeler was perfect with zero errors on 64 chances.
North Florida's Allison Benning was named both ASUN Player and Pitcher of the Year, while her head coach Jeff Conrad was named ASUN Coach of the Year. Central Arkansas picked up the other two superlatives with infielder Madi Young winning Defensive Player of the Year and outfielder Addie Graham landing Freshman of the Year.
