HALL WALK-OFF HOME RUN GIVES UNA 3-2 WIN

FLORENCE – Kevin Hall delivered a two-run walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the University of North Alabama to a 3-2 win over West Georgia in the second game of a Gulf South Conference double-header at Mike Lane Field. West Georgia won the opening game 13-1.

After dropping the opener, UNA trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the seventh but got a leadoff single from Heath Wood and Hayden Holt walked. Kyle Crabtree then attempted a sacrifice to move the base runners up and reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases with no outs. Conner Kiser hit into a double-play but Wood scored to cut West Georgia's lead to 2-1. Hall then hammered the first pitch he saw from reliever Mitchell Mannino for a home run and the 3-2 win.

With the split, UNA is now 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the GSC. West Georgia, ranked in the top 15 in two Division II polls, is 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the GSC.

The two teams will meet in the final game of the series Saturday at 1 p.m.

West Georgia out-hit UNA 15-to five in the opener and UWG starter Brandon Goldsmith (3-0) up the complete-game win in a game that was shortened to seven innings by the run rule. West Georgia scored two runs in the first inning and added two in the third and seven in the fifth to take a 11-0 lead, all off UNA starter Austin Carpenter (1-1). UNA's only run came on a solo home run by Taylor Hayes in the fifth inning. West Georgia then added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Carpenter allowed 11 runs on 12 hits but only five were earned as the Lions made three errors and had two passed balls. He pitched four and a third innings and Dylan Stewart pitched two and a third innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits.

West Georgia scored a run in the fifth inning of the nightcap off UNA starter Todd Gibson to break a scoreless tie. The Wolves then added a run in the sixth off reliever Devan Traglia to make it 2-0. Gibson pitched four and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Traglia (1-0) got the win, allowing a run on three hits over two and two-thirds innings. He struckout three.
