FLORENCE, Ala. –
Devan Traglia allowed just two hits over six innings and
Taylor Hayes went three-for-four with three runs batted in to lead the University of North Alabama to a 7-1 win over Union in the second game of a Gulf South Conference double-header. UNA dropped the opener 8-0 to the Bulldogs.
With the split, UNA is 20-19 overall and 12-14 in the GSC. Union is 17-21 and 9-16.
Union's Teddy Christie threw a complet-game three hitter to get the win in the opener. He walked one and struckout six in improving to 4-4 on the season.
Union got two runs in the second inning and added three in the eighth inning off UNA starter
Riley Sanderson.
Dylan Stewart pitched the ninth inning and was roughed up for three runs on two hits. Sanderson (5-4) took the loss, pitching eight complete innings and allowing five runs on six hits.
UNA got on the board early in the nightcap as
Dylan Calhoun and
Kevin Hall both reached on errors and Hayes blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Union got on the board in the third inning with a run but UNA put the game away with a four-run sixth inning.
Heath Wood doubled in two runs and Hall drove in a run with an RBI-single.
Traglia (3-3) got the win, allowing one run on two hits over six innings.
Blake Talley pitched a scoreless seventh but allowed two hits.
The Lions and Bulldogs play the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m.

UNA President Dr. Ken Kitts throws out the first pitch Saturday

Former UNA third baseman and current Florence police officer John Byrd also threw out a first pitch as part of First Responders Appreciation Day.
