FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama completed a three-game sweep of the Shorter Hawks with a 5-1 win Monday at Mike Lane Field.
North Alabama took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, added a single run in the third inning and two more in the sixth for the win. UNA pitchers
Shane Priest and
Josh Stillman combined to allow just one run on eight hits over nine innings.
With the sweep, UNA is now 14-7 overall and 7-2 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter falls to 9-13 overall and 2-7 in the GSC. The Lions are now tied for second in the GSC standings with Mississippi College and West Florida, one game back of 8-1 Delta State.
UNA managed just seven hits in the game but made the most of them and two Shorter errors in the sixth inning allowed two runs to score.
Ben Cooley led the Lions with two hits.
T.J. Lockett scored two runs and drove in another and
Tate Mathis scored a run and drove in two.
Priest (3-1) got the win, allowing just one run on six hits over seven innings. He walked three and struckout nine. Stillman pitched the final two innings and allowed just two hits.
UNA hosts West Alabama on Tuesday (March 13) at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference game at Mike Lane Field.
