COZART GETS 200TH WIN AS SOFTBALL TOPS UWG 3-0

FLORENCE – A three-run third inning proved to be the difference in the game as the University of North Alabama softball team improved to 32-4 on the season with a 3-0 home win over West Georgia on Saturday. UNA head coach Ashley Cozart also reached a milestone with her 200th victory for the Lions. In her fifth season, she is now 200-63 with the program and also owns a 391-108 career record.
 
Megan Garst pitched a complete-game shutout to get the win in the circle. She allowed two hits and struck out seven to improve to 13-2 on the season. The Lions also maintained first place in the Gulf South Conference standings with a 19-2 league mark.
 
Four straight hits in the bottom of the third inning gave UNA the lead for good. Kara Brewer and Hannah Shollenberger each singled to reach base before a two-run double by Harley Stokes drove in two runs. Stokes reached third on a single by Veronica Westfall before scoring on a sacrifice squeeze bunt by Reagan Tittle.
 
Seven different players had one hit each for the Lions.
 
The same two teams will play a double-header on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the UNA Softball Complex.
