JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama's Division I baseball debut was spoiled by a Jacksonville State lineup that recorded 14 runs on 14 hits in a 14-1 win over the Lions at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.
UNA fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run by JSU's Nic Gaddis.
The Lions got their only run of the day in the top of the second when
Peyton Thomas reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a
Reid Homan RBI-single.
The Lions would finish the day with just four hits, all singles.
Jacksonville State added two more runs in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh. The Gamecocks had eight extra-base hits including three home runs.
Junior
Chase Best took the loss for North Alabama, allowing seven runs on seven hits over three innings. He walked three and struckout three.
Best was one of five Lion pitchers to throw in the game.
The Lions and Gamecocks continue the series with a double-header Saturday beginning at noon.
