CHARLESTON, S.C. – North Alabama managed three runs on nine hits but came out on the short end of a 6-3 decision to The Citadel after allowing four runs in the seventh inning.
UNA took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before The Citadel went up 2-1 in the second. After the Lions tied the game with a run in the fourth, The Citadel posted four in the seventh for a 6-2 lead. North Alabama scored a run in the ninth but could not get closer.
Chase Best (0-3) took the loss for UNA, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over six and a third innings. He walked two and struckout three.
Colt Chrestman singled for UNA in the first, was sacrificed to second and scored on a
Davis Elliott RBI-single.
The Citadel scored two runs in the second on two hits and an error.
Ben Kiefer doubled for UNA in the fourth and scored on a
Tate Mathis double to tie the game at 2-2.
After allowing four runs in the seventh on two hits, a walk, an error and a wild pitch, UNA got one back in the ninth as
Reid Homan doubled and scored on a
Landon Langston RBI-single.
UNA is now 2-7 overall, while The Citadel improved to 3-5.
The two teams meet again on Saturday and Sunday.
