FLORENCE, Ala. -- North Alabama took a 4-0 lead early and
Bryant Claunch allowed just one run over the final five and a third innings to lead the Lions to a 6-2 ASUN Conference baseball win over Stetson at Mike Lane Field.
The win was the first conference victory for North Alabama in its first season in Division I. The Lions are now 5-21 overall and 1-5 in the ASUN. Stetson falls to 12-15 overall and 2-1 in the league.
UNA scored four runs in the second inning on a combination of three hits, two walks and two Stetson errors.
Reid Singewald walked with one out, went to second on a passed ball and stole third.
Peyton Sockwell then drove him in with an RBI-single. After Sockwell was icked off for the second out of the inning,
Reid Homan reached on an error, stole second and scored on a
Colt Chrestman RBI-single.
Harris Kain walked and
Davis Elliott drove in Chrestman and Kain with a two-run single for a 4-0 lead.
UNA got a strong start from
Jacob Laws who allowed just one run on three hits over the first three and two-thirds innings. Claunch came on in relief with two on and two outs in the fourth and struckot Kyle Ball to end the threat.
The Lions got a solo home run blast from
Kevin Brenning to leadoff the fifth. It was Brenning's first hit of the season after the majority of the 2019 campaign due to injury. Stetson countered with a run in the top of the sixth and had the bases loaded with just one out before Claunch worked out of the jam.
UNA's final run came in the seventh when
Ben Kiefer reached on an error and eventually scored when Homan drew a bases-loaded walk.
Claunch (1-1) got his fifth career win and first of the season, allowing just one run on two hits over five and two-thirds innings. He walked two and struckout eight.
UNA out-hit Stetson eight to five.
 North Alabama plays at Ole Miss on Tuesday with an 11:00 a.m. start in Oxford.
