TROY, Ala. -- North Alabama got 14 hits in two games but could only score three runs as the Lions dropped a double-header at Troy, 3-1 and 6-2.
With the losses, UNA is now 2-12 overall in its first season of Division I competition. Troy improved to 9-6.
In the opening game, UNA took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when
Harris Kain reached on an error and eventually scored on an RBI-single by
Colt Chrestman.
Troy answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a walk and three hits to take a 2-1 lead.
The Trojans added a run in the fourth on an RBI-triple by Manning Early.
Chrestman was three-for-four for the Lions and
Ben Kiefer added two hits.
Colin Chamblin (0-3) took the loss for UNA, allowing two runs on three hits in one and a third innings. He walked two and struckout one.
In the nightcap, UNA again took a 1-0 lead in the second as
Reid Homan reached on an error,
Peyton Sockwell reached on a bunt single,
Landon Langston advanced them with a sacrifice fly and
Peyton Thomas drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Troy tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second inning, added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 4-1 lead. North Alabama got a run back in the eighth when
Drew Hudson drew a walk and scored on a
Davis Elliott RBI-single.
Troy got two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final count 6-1.
Jacob Laws (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in four innings of work. He was the first of six Lion pitchers to appear in the game.
North Alabama is scheduled to host Butler on Tuesday in its home opener at 5 p.m.
