NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Leading 2-1 in the seventh inning, the University of North Alabama gave up a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to drop its final game of the season, 4-3 at Lipscomb.
With the loss, North Alabama closes its first season of Division I baseball with a 16-38 overall record. The Lions were 7-16 in ASUN Conference play.
Lipscomb went on top with a run in the third inning off UNA starter
Adam Mancour but the Lions quickly answered with two runs in the top of the fourth for a 2-1 lead.
Peyton Sockwell doubled and
Tate Mathis hit a two-run homer to put the Lions on top.
A Chris Bashlor homer to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning tied the game at 2-2.
UNA regained the lead in the top of the eighth as
Davis Elliott singled and later scored on a Sockwell single to put the Lions up 3-2.
The Bisons got two runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth off reliever
Bryant Claunch on a combination of three hits and two UNA errors.
The Lions were retired in order in the ninth to end the game.
Elliott, Sockwell and Mathis had two hits each for the Lions.
Mancour pitched six and a third innings, allowing just two runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Claunch (5-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits.
