STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Third ranked Mississippi State scored three or more runs in each of the first five innings and limited North Alabama to just six hits as the Bulldogs downed the Lions 18-1 at Dudy Noble Field.
The win pushes Mississippi State's record to 17-4, while North Alabama falls to 1-17. The Lions' current losing skid was extended to 11 games.
Mississippi State jumped on UNA starter Will Habertsock for three runs in the first inning and five more in the second for an 8-0 lead.
The Bulldogs then added three runs in the third inning, three in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth for an 18-0 lead.
UNA finally broke through with a run in the eighth inning as
Drew Hudson got a leadoff double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
Devne Daniel RBI-single.
Hudson accounted for half of UNA's six hits with two singles and a double.
Habertsock (0-3) took the loss for the Lions. He was one of seven UNA pitchers to throw in the game.
Mississippi State finished the game with 14 hits.
UNA hosts a three-game ASUN Conference weekend series against Lipscomb at Mike Lane Field beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
