LIONS ROAR TO 12-2 ASUN WIN OVER LIPSCOMB

FLORENCE, Ala. -- North Alabama scored a season-high 12 runs on 11 hits to back a stellar pitching performance from Hunter Davidson as the Lions posted a 12-2 ASUN Conference baseball win over Lipscomb at Mike Lane Field.

Lipscomb went on top with a run in the first inning but UNA quickly tied it in the bottom of the first and then added two runs in the third, six in the fourth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh for a 12-1 lead. The Bisons scored their final run on a home run in the top of the ninth.

The win by the Lions snapped an overall 11-game losing skid and improves UNA's record to 2-17 overall and 1-6 in the ASUN. Lipscomb is now 7-9 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Davidson pitched eight complete innings for the Lions, allowing just one run on six hits while equalling his career high with 12 strikeouts. He improved to 1-2 with the win.

Reliever Austin Nichols gave up a leadoff home run to Maddux Houghton in the ninth but then retired the next three batters to end the game.

UNA's Devne Daniel doubled in the bottom of the first and scored when Peyton Thomas reached bace on a two-out error.

The Lions took the lad for good in the third as Dominick McIntyre doubled, Drew Hudson was hit-by-pitch and Daniel drove in McIntyre with an RBI-single. Hudson later scored when Austin Thrasher drew a bases loaded walk.

In the fourth Kylan Barnett had a two-run double and Thrasher cleared the bases, driving in three runs with a double of his own. The final run of the innng scored on a Kevn Brenning RBI-double.

Thrasher had an RBI-single in the sixth to make 10-1 and Barnett had an RBI-single in the seventh before the final UNA run scored on a throwing error.

McIntyre led UNA at the plate with three hits, while Thrasher had two hits and drove in five runs. Barnett and Daniel also had two hits each for the Lions.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting.
