FLORENCE, Ala. – North Alabama's bullpen did not allow a hit or a run over the final eight innings and
Reid Homan delivered an RBI-single in the bottom of the 15
th inning to lift the Lions to a 6-5 win over Lipscomb at Mike Lane Field.
With the win, UNA completed a three-game sweep of the Bisons, marking the Lions first three-game series sweep on the Division I level and first sweep in an ASUN Conference series.
The game took 5:05 to play, marking the longest game in UNA baseball history at home in terms of both time and innings played.
North Alabama entered the weekend struggling at the plate with a 1-17 overall record. The Lions bats came to life against the Bisons scoring 25 runs on 34 hits in the three games.
UNA improved to 4-17 overall and 3-6 in the ASUN. Lipscomb is now 7-11 overall and 2-4 in the ASUN.
In the series finale, Lipscomb scored three unearned runs in the third inning and made it 4-0 with an additional unearned run in the fourth.
UNA got on the board with a solo
Peyton Thomas home run in the bottom of the fourth and each team added a run in the fifth as Lipscomb held a 5-2 advantage.
The Lions got a run in the seventh and two in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. A two-run RBI-single by
Kylan Barnett knotted the game at 5-5.
Neither team would score over the next five innings before UNA scored the game winner in the bottom of the 15
th.
Dominick McIntyre walked, was sacrified to second by
Drew Hudson. Barnett was intentionally walked and Thomas was hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Homan then delivered the game winning hit in his eighth plate appearance of the day.
UNA starter
Kyle Moore allowed five total runs, but just one earned, in seven innings of work. He threw 122 total pitches, walking two and striking out nine. Keegan Foe then entered the game with one runner on in the eighth and allowed just two walks in two and a third innings.
Austin Nichols (2-0) then entered the game with one base runner on in the tenth and he allowed just two walks over the next five and two thirds innings to pick up his second win of the season.
Barnett led UNA with three hits in the game, while Hudson, Daniel, Homan and
Austin Thrasher had two each. McIntyre had one hit and drew three walks, scoring three runs.
North Alabama plays at nationally ranked Ole Miss on Tuesday.
