CINCINNATI, Ohio -- After dropping the first game of a double-header 9-0 at Cincinnati, the University of North Alabama baseball team out-hit the Bearcats 10 to six in the nightcap but eventually dropped the game 9-8.
The two teams will meet in a second double-header on Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Lions were held to two hits in the opener by Cincinnati pitcher Dylan Brosky, who tossed a complte-game shutout with seven strikeouts.
UNA's only hits in the game came from
Kyle Machado.
North Alabama starter
Justus Agosto pitched four innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits with five walks and two strikeouts. The Lions committed three errors which made four of the runs unearned.
Josh Bowerman pitched the final two innings for UNA, allowing just one hit.
UNA went on top in game two with a run in the top of the first inning. Cincinnati tied it with a run in the bottom of the first but UNA went back on top with a run in the second inning. The Bearcats took a 4-2 lead with a three-run tourth inning before UNA tied it at 4-4 in the fifth. Cincinnati took the lead for good with five runs in the fifth inning. North Alabama chipped away with three runs in the sixth and one in the ninth but couldn't catch the Bearcats.
Jacob Bradshaw (0-1) took the loss for UNA, allowing eight runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts over two innings. Starter
Raleigh Claunch pitched three innings and allowed one run on one hit.
Carson Howard closed the game with three innings of scoreless relief.
Andin Johnson led the Lions with three hits in the game, leading seven other Lions who had one hit each. Machado and
Jackson Ferrigno drove in two runs each.
