LOUISVILLE, Ky. – North Alabama completed a three-game ASUN Conference baseball sweep of Bellarmine with a 16-11 win over the Knights Sunday. The Lions scored 37 runs in their first ASUN sweep since downing Bellarmine in 2022.
UNA is now 9-25 overall and 3-12 in the ASUN.
North Alabama took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run
Andrew Knight home run and the Lions would never trail in the game. UNA added four runs in the third inning, seven in the fifth and one in the sixth for a commanding 14-3 lead.
The Knights weren't done, however, as they fought back to score eight straight runs and cut UNA's lead to three runs at 14-11.
North Alabama added two insurance runs in the ninth on a two-run
Drew Hudson homer to make the final score 16-11.
Both teams had 15 hits in the game, with UNA tying its own Division I record with four home runs.
Jonathan Lane hit a three-run home run in the third inning and
Gehrig Frei followed with a solo shot.
Knight and Frei led UNA with three hits each and Knight, Lane, Frei and Hudson drove in three runs each.
Carson Howard (1-0) got the win for UNA., pitching two and two-thirds innings of relief.
UNA hosts Belmont on Tuesday at Mike Lane Field. .
