ATLANTA (August 28, 2023) – Freshman outside hitter Avery Markham was announced as the first ASUN Freshman of the Week for the 2023 season on Monday, the league announced.
Starting in all three matches for the Lions at the A-State Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark., Markham had an all-around performance on both sides of the net.
On offense, she totaled 30 kills over the weekend with a .225 hitting percentage and contributed two aces on serves. Her 16 kills in the Lions' final match against Arkansas State led all players and was the most by any Lion in a match during the invitational.
Defensively, Markham tallied 30 digs and was solid receiving serves with a .917 service reception percentage on 84 attempts. She also provided three blocks at the net to round out the weekend.
With a 2-1 record to start the season, North Alabama will look for more wins in their next outing at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., with the first match against Evansville to start at 2 p.m.
