BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 2, 2025) – The University of North Alabama baseball team fell to the UAB Blazers at Young Memorial Field by a 10-2 final on Sunday in the final game of the series. Graduate Zak Majer went 2-for-3 from the batter's box with a double and run on the day.
North Alabama made some changes to the lineup in the second game of the series, and head coach Jad Prachniak struck with those changes in game three. As mentioned, Majer stayed in as a designated hitter in this one, Ryker Billingsley stayed in the lineup and launched a homer for the other run of the game. Right fielder Ryan West also made a start.
North Alabama got on the board early, as Majer opened the game with his double down the left field line on the second pitch. First baseman Petey Craska singled but an error by the right fielder lead to an extra base and helped notch a run as Majer scored.
UAB started hot in the bottom of the first as two singles got runners on base. A stolen base from the lead runner and then a sac fly put the Blazers on the board with two runs.
A near identical bottom of the second for UAB as three straight hitters singled. However, thanks to an initial walk, the first run scored. After the bases loaded, a sac fly to center field scored another runner, making it an early 4-1 lead.
A couple of hits for North Alabama came in the middle inning, but the sixth inning saw a homer launched over right field from Billingsley, closing the gap 4-2.
The floodgates opened in the bottom of the seventh, as a lead-off double and then a single next batter up led to the first score. Big batter Logan Braunschweig did it again with an RBI single up the middle and then a stolen base.
A walk put another runner on which led to the freshman right-hander Luke Davenport making an appearance for the inning with an out in tow. After a single to second, the bases were loaded again. A UAB double to right center scored two more and finished out the five-run inning. The Blazers added one more in the bottom of the eighth to push it to 10-2.
