women’s tennis teams each won their first
match of the Gulf South Conference
tournament Saturday before falling in the
semi-finals at Lagoon Park.

teams each extended their winning streaks
Thursday by sweeping Gulf South Conference
and in-state rival West Alabama at the UNA
Tennis Complex.

-- On the heels of four straight wins, the
University of North Alabama women's tennis
team has climbed to a No. 4 ranking in the
South Region, and the UNA men are also
fourth in the region.

The University of North Alabama tennis
teams climbed above the .500 mark for the season after combining to
post a 5-0 record over spring break. The men’s team went 3-0 with
victories over North Greenville, Erskine and Brevard to improve to
6-5 on the year, while the UNA women improved to 6-4 after knocking
off North Greenville and Presbyterian.

team opened the day with a 5-3 win over UAH
before dropping a 5-0 decision to the
third-ranked Blazers. |

– The University of North Alabama tennis
teams each picked up a win over West Alabama
in the opening day of the Gulf South
Conference Jamboree Friday in Pensacola,
Fla. The Lion men’s and women’s teams both
won their matches by identical 5-0 scores
and are scheduled to face UAH and Valdosta
State Saturday in day two of the event.

picked up a win at No. 2 singles but it was
far from enough as the University of North
Alabama men's tennis team dropped a 6-1
decision at Division I Samford.
Despite Silva's hard-fought, three-set win,
the Lions dropped the other five singles and
three doubles matches. The loss drops UNA's
men to 2-3 overall. |

TENNIS TEAMS, UNA WOMEN REBOUND AGAINST
MONTEVALLO
BIRMINGHAM – The University of
North Alabama tennis teams opened the 2007
season with a pair of 7-0 defeats against
Division I Alabama-Birmingham Friday at the
Brook Highland Racquet Club in Birmingham.
The Blazers were able to pick up the doubles
and singles sweep from the men’s and women’s
team in the season opener for both programs.
The UNA women were able to rebound the
following day, however, topping Montevallo
6-3 to give head coach Al Morgan is first
collegiate victory.
The Lion men’s and women’s teams will return
to action next Friday, hosting Bethel
College at 2 p.m. |
