FLORENCE – University of North Alabama head volleyball coach Stephanie Radecki has announced the signing of two players to the 2008 recruiting class.

Local standouts Cassie Daniels and Lauren Greenhill have each signed national letters of intent and will play for the Lions next season.

Daniels finished up her senior volleyball season at Winston County High School, leading the Yellow Jackets to at state runner-up finish last year.

Greenhill prepped at the Class 6A level at Florence High School.

  PALASAK RECEIVES ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTION
  North Alabama outside hitter Danielle Palasak has received an All-America honorable mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) following her senior season in 2007.
  PALASAK, HANSEN EARN AVCA ALL-REGION HONORS
  FLORENCE – Following the 2007 season, the University of North Alabama volleyball team placed two players on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Central Region squad. Senior Danielle Palasak was a first-team selection while junior Jessica Hansen received an honorable mention.
  VOLLEYBALL TEAM LEFT OUT OF NCAA TOURNAMENT
  For the first time in 12 seasons, the University of North Alabama volleyball team will not be making the trip to the NCAA Division II tournament. Selections for the regional round of the 2007 NCAA tourney were announced Monday, leaving the Lions at home during the post-season for the first time since 1995.

  HANSEN NAMED GSC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  BIRMINGHAM – Officials with the Gulf South Conference have named North Alabama libero Jessica Hansen the league’s East Division Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.  Hansen, a 5-5 junior, wins the conference defensive honor for the second time in her career after helping the Lions to a 2-2 season-opening record this past weekend. She posted three 20-plus dig matches and averaged 5.27 digs per game on the week. The Council Bluffs, Iowa native had a season-high 26 digs against No. 8 Ashland and also added 11 service aces for the week. North Alabama will return to action next weekend at the Town Place Suites Classic in Findlay, Ohio. The Lions will open the event with a battle against seventh-ranked Truman State on Aug. 31 at noon.

BIRMINGHAM – Head volleyball coaches in the Gulf South Conference have once against selected North Alabama as the favorite to take home the league crown.  The Lions edged West Florida 32-31 in the East Division and were also selected as the team most likely to win the overall championship.

  BELLINGER AMONG 2007 GSC TOP TEN HONOREES
  PENSACOLA, Fla., – Former North Alabama standout volleyball player Laura Bellinger has been named as one the 11th annual Gulf South Conference Top Ten Award Winners. The Portage, Mich., native is the seventh UNA student-athlete to win the honor, which is based on athletic, academic and extracurricular achievement.

Top-ranked Tampa claimed its first national championship with a 30-25, 27-30, 30- 21, 30-17 victory over the Lions, ending the nation’s longest winning streak in the process.
  AYRES NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN
  FLORENCE - University of North Alabama senior volleyball player Dee Ayres has provided another post-season award for the Lions this year. The middle blocker received first-team honors on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team.
  VOLLEYBALL TEAM HAS THREE RECEIVE ALL-AMERICA RECOGNITION
  Following a 35-6 season that saw the University of North Alabama volleyball team advance to the NCAA Division II national championship match, the Lions had three senior players receive All- America recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Setter Laura Bellinger received first-team honors from the AVCA, while opposite Megan Stout was a third-team selection and libero Ashley Hill received an honorable mention.
