BIRMINGHAM – Officials with the Gulf South Conference
have named North Alabama forward Amber Rutherford the GSC East
Division Player of the Week.
The sophomore from Hatton had a big week leading the Lions to a 2-0
mark in conference play. UNA defeated Valdosta State on Saturday,
then knocked off West Florida on Monday to improve to 9-10 overall
with a 2-2 record in the conference. In the two games,
Rutherford averaged 22.5 points and seven rebounds.
Against VSU, she shot 80 percent from the field and connected on
five of six shots from the charity stripe as UNA posted the 55-52
victory. She then exploded against UWF, scoring 29 points while
adding a steal in the 71-64 win. |

with 45 seconds left when Tandra Inmon drove
in for a go- ahead basket. VSU then missed
two free throws and UNA added a free throw
from Jameica York for a three-point

Presel as assistant women’s basketball coach.
Presel will rejoin current Lions head coach Terry Fowler, who
took over head coaching duties in March. The two previously
coached together at Spring Hill College, where Presel spent a
total of six seasons. |

-- Terry Fowler has been hired as the seventh head women's
basketball coach in University of North Alabama history, according
to UNA Athletic Director Dr. Joel Erdmann. Fowler comes to
UNA after four seasons as head coach at Spring Hill College in
Mobile where he led the school to a 19-13 record in 2006,
including a Top 25 national ranking in the NAIA.
