UNA COMPLETES SOFTBALL SWEEP OVER UAH WITH 3-1 WIN

FLORENCE – A pair of RBI-singles in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled the University of North Alabama softball team to a 3-1 home win over UAH on Sunday, completing the three-game sweep against the No. 7 Chargers. The win gives No. 15 UNA a 28-5 record on the season and moves the Lions into second place in the Gulf South Conference standings with a 13-4 league record.

UNA entered the sixth inning tied 1-1 and with just two hits on the day. With pinch runner Kaitlynn Wiggins on first base, Brittany Gillison drew a two-out walk. Brooklynn Clark followed with a single up the middle to score Wiggins and give the Lions a 2-1 lead. With runners at first and second, Carey Grace Peebles then singled down the left line to score Gillison and account for the final score.

Bree Blevins got the complete-game victory in the circle for UNA. It was the second win in the series for the senior from Pell City who improved to 12-3 on the year. She scattered five hits and struck out three in seven innings of work.

The two teams traded solo home runs in the fourth inning. UAH (23-8 overall, 14-5 GSC) took a 1-0 lead off the bat of Emily Glover in the top of the frame. Gillison answered for the Lions in the bottom of the inning with her sixth homer of the season to tie the score at 1-1.

For the day, Gillison, Clark and Peebles each had one hit and one RBI. Courtney Shields was also 2-for-3 at the plate.

UNA will play its next three-game GSC series at West Georgia. The two teams are set to play a double-header on Friday, April 3, at noon (CST). A single game is also scheduled for noon the following day.
