HOOVER – Playing in its second straight five-set match, the University of North Alabama volleyball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to rally for a 3-2 win over No. 19 Saint Leo Friday at the Finley Center in Hoover. The 21-25, 21-25, 25-14, 26-24, 15-9 victory opens play for UNA at the 2017 GSC/SSS Crossover and gives the team a 17-4 record on the year.

Lexie Bradley and Jessica Austin combined for 42 kills while Ashtyn Kapovich turned in a career-high 34 digs for the Lions.

Saint Leo (11-3) was on the verge of a sweep after consecutive 25-21 victories. SLU hit .269 in the opening set and .237 in the second game while the Lions hit below .100 in both contests. A dominating performance in the third set, however, turned things around for UNA.

Bradley had seven kills in the frame as the Lions hit .333 as a team. Kapovich had 10 digs as Saint Leo was held to a .051 showing. SLU would be unable to hot over .098 the rest of the way as the Lions rallied.

North Alabama held off the Lions for a 26-24 win in the fourth set and pulled away late in the final frame. Jayden Davila-McClary finished with 58 assists on the night for UNA.

Four UNA players reached double figures in digs, including Kapovich, who eclipsed the 30-dig mark for the third time this season. Bradley added 11 digs for her third double-double of the year, while Davila-McClary and Ava Carnley had 10 digs each.

UNA will remain in Hoover to face a pair of SSC teams on Saturday. The Lions will face Barry at 12:15 p.m. before closing the event with a 7 p.m. showdown against Florida Southern.
