FLORENCE, Ala. -- University of North Alabama women's soccer coach Chris Walker has announced the signing of eight student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.

The group of eight freshmen includes a goalkeeper, three defenders, one midfielder and three forwards.

UNA's 2017 signing class is comprised of defender Mary Margaret Borden of Florence (Ala.) High School, midfielder Lexi DeCamp of William Henry Harrison High School in West Lafayette, Ind., forward Kate Ennett of Shalom College in Bundaberg, Australia, defender Taylor Farmer of North Paulding High School in Dallas, Texas, forward Madeline Guillen of Chelsea (Ala.) High School, goalkeeper Charlotte Johnson from Bridwater & Taunton College in Bridport, England, forward Sara Litmanen of Espoonlahti High School in Espoo, FInland and defender Emma Stice of Sycamore High School in Sycamore, Ill.

"We're really excited with our signing class," said Walker. "We got a really diverse group of players and we feel like our signees can come in and compete for playing time straight away. We've added to the strength of our team and to our overall depth."

Walker said this signing class is key in replacing key seniors lost from 2016 and in looking ahead to UNA's transition to Division I which begins in 2018.

"Hopefully this class will be a nice kick start for our final year in Division II and our first year in Division I," Walker said.

The Lions finished their 2016 season with an 8-8 overall record. The Lions have competed in the NCAA Division II Regionals six times in the last eight years.
