LIONS SPLIT TENNIS MATCHES AGAINST BELLARMINE

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama tennis teams got a 9-0 win on the men's side before dropping a 5-4 decision to the Bellarmine women Thursday at Cox Creek Park. Both UNA teams sport identical 4-2 records now heading into Saturday's home matches against nationally-ranked teams from Cameron.

The UNA men dominated from start to finish, getting all three doubles points before sweeping six singles matches in straight sets. The duo of Taylor Ausbon and Miguel Garcia highlighted doubles play with an 8-0 victory at the No. 2 position, improving to 4-0 on the season.

Ausbon had an equally impressive performance in singles play, producing a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 spot. Max Druppel's 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position also gave him a 6-0 record in singles play this year.

The UNA women led 2-0 in doubles play before an injury changes the momentum of the match. The team of Donna Haycock and Claudia Arroyo led 1-0 at the top doubles spot before an injury to Arroyo forced the team to retire, awarding the point to Bellarmine.

With Arroyo not able to play at No. 2 singles, the remaining roster members were moved up one position, opening the door for the Knights to rally from the 2-1 deficit. With five of the six singles matches going to three sets, Bellarmine posted four victories to get the win.

UNA got points from Nina Linke (5-7, 7-5, 6-3) at No. 2 singles and Claire DeGeorge (3-6, 7-6, 6-0) at No. 5 singles, but came up short on the other courts.

Match time against Cameron is set for noon Saturday at the UNA Tennis Complex. Cameron's men's and women's teams are ranked 16^th and 17^th respectively.
