Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

VOLLEYBALL LIONS FALL 3-0 AT NJIT

NEWARK, N.J., – NJIT rallied to win the opening set and used the momentum to get two more victories in a 26-24, 25-19, 25-18 victory over the University of North Alabama volleyball team Tuesday evening at the Wellness Center in Newark, N.J. The win by the Highlanders represented the first in ASUN Conference play while UNA fell to 2-14 overall and 0-7 in league action.
 
Madison Ruble led the Lions with eight kills, but NJIT had three players with as many and held a 39-26 advantage in total team kills.
 
NJIT overcame a five-point deficit in the opening set. After UNA jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, the Highlanders stayed within striking distance until late in the game. NJIT took its first lead at 19-18 and got to set point at 24-23. A kill by Nura Abakar tied the game before consecutive points by the home team ended the frame.
 
UNA led by four twice early in the second set before the Highlanders took control. NJIT grabbed its first lead at 13-12 and stretched the advantage to 18-14 to prompt a timeout by North Alabama. The Lions would get no closer than two down the stretch. UNA hit .000 in the set with nine attack errors.
 
NJIT took control midway through the final set to complete the sweep. The Highlanders led 23-13 before getting the seven-point win.
 
For the match, the Lions hit .043 with 26 kills and 22 attack errors. Ruble added four blocks on the night while Joise Maldonado had six kills and two blocks. Emma Ellis had a double-double with 11 assists and 10 digs. Jayden Davila-McClary added 10 assists while Catie Ladner posted 12 digs on the night.
 
Jovana Baosic led NJIT (4-17 overall, 2-5 ASUN) with nine kills.
 
UNA will return home to host North Florida on Sunday. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
