MEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT OLE MISS IN SEASON OPENER

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OXFORD, Miss., – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team opened the 2019 season with a pair of losses at Ole Miss on Saturday. The Rebels, who are receiving votes in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Rankings, recorded identical 4-0 victories at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center located along Manning Way.

In the opening match, Ole Miss got the doubles point with wins at the top two positions before winning spots one, four and five in singles play. The two teams started the second match in singles play with the Rebels picking up victories at the one, three, four and five positions.

"Today was a fantastic effort by our guys in our first Division I match against an Ole Miss team that made the Sweet 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "We started the day way too tight in doubles before settling down a little in singles play. Jason Pimenta and George Markos started well. Oscar Meslin trailed 3-0 before coming back to win his first set. Overall, everyone had some positive moments.

"In the second match, Oscar again played well. Andreas Hansen was in his first set when the match ended. Overall, this was a great way to kickoff our season against a great opponent in a fantastic facility."

The UNA men will play at another Southeastern Conference opponent on Monday when the Lions take on No. 22 Alabama. Match time is set for 5 p.m. inside the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Indoor Tennis Facility on the UA campus in Tuscaloosa.
