LIPSCOMB SWEEPS WOMEN’S TENNIS IN ASUN PLAY

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team was unable to overcome a slow start Saturday in its ASUN Conference opener against Lipscomb. The visiting Bisons quickly secured the doubles point before completing the 7-0 sweep with six straight singles victories.
 
With the loss, UNA falls to 5-9 on the season and opens ASUN play with an 0-1 mark.
 
Lipscomb took the early lead with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles and a 6-2 win at the top spot. Sydney Flesch and Nele Seitz were ahead 4-3 at No. 3 when the point was secured and play was stopped.
 
In singles play, the Bisons won five of the six matches in straight sets, clinching the match with quick wins at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 positions. At No. 2 singles, Flesch won her opening set 6-1 before Lipscomb's Kate Popova rallied. Povova tied the match with a 6-2 win before winning 10-2 in the tiebreaker.
 
UNA will host Liberty on Sunday. Match time for the ASUN showdown is set for 10 a.m. at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts.
