MEN’S TENNIS WRAPS SEASON AT NORTH FLORIDA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team closed out the 2019 season with a 7-0 loss at North Florida on Saturday. With the loss, UNA wraps up its first season at the NCAA Division I level with a 3-16 record, including a 1-6 mark in ASUN Conference play.

Against the Ospreys, UNA fell behind in doubles play and was unable to recover. UNF took the early lead with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots.

In singles play, quick
wins at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions clinched the match for the home team. North Florida completed the sweep with straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 5 before holding on for a third-set tiebreaker at the top spot.

After dropping the opening set, UNA's Jason Pimenta extended the match with a 6-3 victory in the second set at No. 1 singles. North Florida's Sahil Deshmukh, however, earned a 10-4 win in the tiebreaker.

"I thought we played well," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "North Florida is really good and that showed over the course of the day today.  They made it difficult on us all day. I'm really proud of Jason (Pimenta). He battled all day and just came up a little short He put it on the line every match at the top spot this year and brought his best effort.  He really played at a high level all season. As a team, we've got to take what we've learned this year and go to work to improve."
