UNA WOMEN FALL AT NORTH FLORIDA IN SEASON FINALE

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team wrapped up its first season at the Division I level with a 7-0 loss at North Florida on Saturday. With the loss, UNA ends the 2019 campaign with a 6-16 record, including a 1-6 mark in ASUN Conference play.

UNF clinched the No. 2 seed in the league standings with solid performances in doubles and singles play. After getting a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, the Ospreys grabbed the early lead by edging a 7-5 win over UNA's Elise Sickle and Claire DeGeorge at the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, all six matches were won in straight sets. UNF clinched the match with wins at No. 5, No. 2 and No. 1. Three more singles victories then completed the sweep for the home team.

"I just can't find the words to say how impressed I am of these young women," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "They came to work every day and it showed. They handled the tough schedule head on, and that will benefit us in the long run. The three seniors did it the right way, won a lot of matches over their careers and led this team into Division I.  I will forever be grateful to them."
