TULSA HOLDS OFF UNA SOFTBALL IN CONSOLATION GAME

STARKVILLE, Miss., – After falling behind 3-0 to Tulsa, a rally by the University of North Alabama softball team came up short as the Golden Hurricane held on for the 3-2 victory Sunday in the consolation game of the Mississippi State Bulldog Kickoff Classic. It was the second one-run loss to Tulsa in as many days for the Lions, who fall to 5-4 on the season.
 
Tulsa (8-1) got a single run in the bottom of the first inning and added two runs in the third to take the early lead.
 
A two-run fifth inning got the Lions back in the game. After Danielle de Ruiter reached on an error to lead off the frame, pinch-runner Mary Grayson Kilpatrick scored from second on Meleah Hargett's RBI-single to center field.
 
Emma Latham tied the game with an RBI-triple off the wall in left field. The freshman from Hatton represented the tying run, but was stranded at third to end the inning.
 
UNA could not get another base runner in the final two innings.
 
Lexie Harper was 2-for-4 to lead the Lions at the plate. Michelle Moore (1-2) took the pitching loss after starting and working the first 2.2 innings.
 
North Alabama will play at Alabama State on Thursday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. on the ASU campus in Montgomery.
