FLORENCE – Jacksonville State secured the match with four victories in singles play, then added a final point by winning two of three doubles matches for a 5-2 victory over the University of North Alabama women's tennis team on Wednesday. With the loss, UNA falls to 2-7 on the season while the Gamecocks improve to 4-1 on the year.

With singles matches being played first, JSU held a slim 3-2 lead that included each team winning a three-set thriller. The Gamecocks clinched the match by rallying for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.

"This was a tough loss today," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "I thought our effort was good, but we lost too many deuce points. You have to give JSU credit. They played better on those big points."

Kalais Going (6-4, 6-2 at No. 5) and Sydney Flesch (6-2, 1-6, 7-6 at No. 2) provided the points for UNA.

"Kalais and Sydney came up big today," Bishop added. "We just couldn't finish some leads we had. This group is working hard and will only get better."

In doubles play, the two teams split the top two positions before the Gamecocks secured the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 3. Megan Humphreys and Lee-Taylor Bishop posted the 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles for the Lions.

UNA will play at Austin Peay on Saturday. Match time is set for 11 a.m. on the ASPU campus in Clarksville, Tenn.
