UNA WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT OLE MISS

OXFORD, Miss., – After winning two of three doubles matches to grab an early lead, Ole Miss picked up singles wins at all six positions to record a 7-0 home victory Saturday over the University of North Alabama women's tennis team. With the loss, UNA falls to 1-5 on the season.

"I'm proud of the effort today," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "Ole Miss put a lot of pressure on us and I though we competed and didn't back down. You could see how much better we played since our first match. We've got to continue to work on doing little things better."

The two teams split the first two matches of the day. The Rebels recorded a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles before the Lions evened the score. Lee-Taylor Bishop and Kalais Going notched a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position. Ole Miss, however, was able to win the overall doubles point by rallying for a 6-3 win at the top spot.

"We had the lead (at No. 1), but give credit to Ole Miss," Bishop said. "They played extremely tough on the big points. That was a big win for Kalais and Lee-Taylor (at No. 2). They started strong and never let up. Their confidence grew and they played big in the big moments."

The Rebels (6-2) used the momentum from the doubles rally to post straight-sets wins in every singles match. Wins at No. 4, No. 3 and No. 2 clinched the match before the home team finished with victories at the No. 1, No. 6 and No. 5 spots.

Bishop represented the Lions' closest singles match on the day. The freshman came up short 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 5 position.

"We had a few opportunities in singles" added Bishop. "Lee-Taylor backed up her doubles play with a good outing in singles play."

The UNA women's team will join the men and play at Troy on Feb. 14. The women's match is set for 3 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on the TU campus.
