MEN’S TENNIS DROPS SEASON OPENER AT MISSISSIPPI STATE

Box Score STARKVILLE, Miss., – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team opened the 2021 season Friday with a 7-0 loss to host Mississippi State.

After securing the doubles point with a three-match sweep, the Bulldogs notched singles wins at the No. 5, No. 3 and No. 6 positions to clinch the match. Three more victories at the remaining singles spots completed the scoring for MSU on the day.

UNA had its best chance to grab a point at No. 4 singles. In the final match of the day, the Bulldogs' Carles Hernandez held off UNA's Jamie Bixby 6-2, 6-4.

Mississippi State improved to 2-0 on the season after sweeping ASUN Conference newcomer Bellarmine earlier in the day.

The UNA men will face its second straight Southeastern Conference opponent on Sunday. The Lions travel to Tuscaloosa to play a double-header against Alabama. Match times are set for 1 and 5 p.m. at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Indoor Tennis Facility.
