SAMFORD TENNIS DOWNS UNA MEN 5-2

BIRMINGHAM – After securing the doubles point, Samford was able to win three straight singles matches to clinch the match during a 5-2 home victory over the University of North Alabama men's tennis team on Sunday. The loss leaves UNA with an 0-4 record on the season.
 
Following a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, the Bulldogs took the overall 1-0 lead with a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot. Play was stopped at the top spot.
 
In singles play, Samford clinched the match with straight-sets wins at No. 5, No. 4 and No. 2 singles.
 
UNA got on the scoreboard at No. 6 when Tim Heslin outlasted Harrison Williams 7-5, 6-1. After the Bulldogs grabbed another point with a close win at No. 1, Jamie Bixby closed out the scoring with a three-set victory for the Lions. The freshman from Brentwood, England, recorded the 7-5, 6-7, 1-0 win at the No. 3 spot.
 
The UNA men will join the women's tennis team on Jan. 30 to play at Alabama State. Match time is set for 2 p.m. in Montgomery.
