FLORENCE – After dropping the opening set against Lipscomb, the University of North Alabama volleyball team posted three straight wins to rally for a 3-1 victory Tuesday evening at Flowers Hall. The 14-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-20 win gives UNA a 1-4 record on the season and 1-3 mark in ASUN Conference play.
Less than 24 hours after sweeping the Lions in Nashville, Lipscomb opened play with another convincing win in the opening set. The Bisons hit .433 as a team in the 25-14 victory.
The second set remained close from start to finish. The two teams battled to a 23-23 tie before an attack error against Lipscomb gave the Lions a set point. Maggie Sullivan and Sarah-Elizabeth Williams then teamed for a double block on the ensuing rally to give UNA the victory.
Lipscomb scored the first three points of the third set before the Lions rallied to take an 8-7 lead.
The Bisons later led 16-12 before a 10-4 North Alabama spurt gave UNA a 22-20 lead. From there, the set featured two more ties and two more lead changes. With the score tied at 24-24, the Lions got a kill by Kamryn Parsonage and an attack error against Lipscomb to claim the set and the over 2-1 lead in the match.
The two teams traded runs in the fourth set with UNA grabbing an 18-13 lead. The Bisons closed the gap to 21-18 before kills by Parsonage and Kennedey Johnson pushed the Lions lead to five points. Lipscomb responded with two straight points before consecutive kills by Sullivan and Libby Goodman ended the match.
Sullivan hit .400 and finished with four blocks and 12 kills to lead UNA. Parsonage added 11 kills on the night. Johnson led the way with 19 assists while Breylee Linder added 11 assists for the Lions.
Defensively, Katie Gerig turned in a match-high 19 digs.
UNA will return to action Friday and Saturday with a pair of ASUN matches at Kennesaw State.
