UNA TENNIS SWEEPS MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE

MONTGOMERY – The University of North Alabama men's and women's tennis teams each picked up a neutral-site victory over Mississippi Valley State Sunday by identical 6-0 scores at Montgomery's Lagoon Park. Both matches featured singles play only as the UNA men improved to 2-8 on the season while the women's team moved to 4-8 on the year.
 
On the men's side, the Lions won all six matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores to record the clean sweep. Wins at No. 3, No. 4, No. 2 and No. 5 clinched the victory. Guiherme Diniz (No. 3) was first to finish while Jamie Bixby (No. 5) clinched the match for the Lions. No. 1 and No. 6 singles closed out the match with victories for the Lions.
 
The UNA women were equally impressive. 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4, No. 5, No. 1 and No. 3 clinched the overall win. Kalais Going started the scoring while Payton Andrews clinched the match. The No. 5 and No. 6 sports wrapped up the scoring on the day.
 
With doubles play being saved for a potential tiebreaker, it was not used in either match.
 
The UNA men will now turn their attention to ASUN Conference play. The Lions host Liberty March 19, at 2 p.m. The women's team will play one more non-conference matchup, hosting Middle Tennessee on March 16. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts.
