FLORENCE – After securing the doubles point, visiting Liberty won six consecutive singles matches to post a 7-0 victory over the University of North Alabama men's tennis team on Friday. With the loss, UNA falls to 2-9 on the season and opens ASUN Conference play with an 0-1 mark.
The Flames (10-5 overall, 1-0 ASUN) took the early lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The top doubles position was unfinished.
In singles play, Liberty clinched the match with victories at the No. 5, No. 3 and No. 2 spots. Straight-sets victories at No. 6 and No. 4 singles gave the Flames a 6-0 lead before the visitors held on to complete the sweep at the top singles position.
Following a 6-3 loss in the opening set, Carlos Matarredona evened the match with a 6-4 victory. Liberty's Nicaise Muamba, however, posted a 10-7 victory in the tiebreaker.
The UNA men host Bellarmine on Sunday Match time is set for 10 a.m. at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts.
