FLORENCE, Ala.–The University of North Alabama will open its first football season as a full-fledged member of the NCAA Division I on the road on September 1, 2022 at Indiana State, both schools announced Thursday.
The Lions will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., to face the Sycamores on a Thursday night to kickoff each school's 2022 campaign. It will mark the first meeting between the two schools in football.
Indiana State and North Alabama are both members of the Football Championship Subdivision.
North Alabama is completing its final year of a four-year transition to Division I and will be eligible to compete for a conference championship and an NCAA post-season bid for the first time in 2022.
The Lions are competing as an affiliate member of the Big South Conference this season and will be a member of the ASUN Conference in all 14 sports beginning in 2022.
