MIDDLE TENNESSEE TENNIS HOLDS OFF LIONS

MURFREESBORO, Tenn., - Middle Tennessee improved to 3-0 Friday by picking up a home 7-0 victory over the University of North Alabama men's tennis team. With the loss, UNA falls to 0-3 on the season.
 
The Blue Raiders took the early lead after winning the doubles points with 6-2 and 6-3 victories at the No. 3 and No. 2 spots respectively.
 
The home team clinched the match with straight-sets singles wins at No. 6, No. 3 and No. 4. Another victory at No. 5 singles gave Middle Tennessee a 5-0 lead before the top two positions went to tiebreakers.
 
After falling 6-2 in the opening set of No. 2 singles, UNA's Carlos Matarredona picked up a 6-4 win in the second set. The Blue Raiders, however, captured the overall point with a 10-3 victory in the tiebreaker.
 
Middle Tennessee won the final point by rallying to win at No.1 singles. Fernando Herrera grabbed the early lead with a 6-3 win over No. 82 Francisco Rocha. A 6-2 win by Rocha in the second set tied the match before a 10-5 victory in the tiebreaker completed the sweep for the Blue Raiders.
 
UNA will play at Mississippi State on Feb. 3. Match time is set for 4 p.m. on the MSU campus in Starkville, Miss.
