UNA ADDS CASSADY TO SOFTBALL COACHING STAFF

FLORENCE – University of North Alabama head softball coach Ashley Cozart has announced the addition of Chase Cassady as assistant coach. The former standout in the circle at Liberty University will serve as the Lions' pitching coach.

A 2019 Liberty graduate, Cassady came to UNA after serving on the 2022 coaching staff at Gardner-Webb.

"We are so excited to add Chase to our coaching staff," said Cozart. "She was a very successful pitcher at Liberty and has shown she knows what it takes at this level. She will make our pitching staff better immediately and I am excited for her to bring a new and exciting energy to our program."

Before her stint at GWU, Cassady spent a total of six seasons at Liberty as a player and a coach. During her time as a pitcher for the Lady Flames, she left her mark on the program, helping Liberty to three straight postseason appearances (two NISC and one NCAA) as well as three consecutive 40-win seasons in her final three years.

Her career honors include: 2018 second team All-Big South Conference, 2019 NFCA second team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, 2019 VaSID All-State second team, three-time Big South Pitcher of the Week and 2019 NISC Lynchburg Regional MVP.

Cassady holds Liberty's single-season (8.0 in 2016) and career (6.83) records for strikeouts per seven innings, while she ranks fifth in program history with 14 career shutouts. As a senior, she posted a 15-4 record with a 1.50 ERA and five shutouts.

She began her post-playing career by serving as a graduate assistant with Liberty softball in 2020 before being elevated to volunteer assistant coach the following season. Cassady assisted her older sister, associate head coach Paige Cassady, with the Lady Flames' pitching staff. She helped Liberty earn a 2021 ASUN title, while the pitchers tossed 19 shutouts overall and posted a 0.76 ASUN ERA.

Originally from Orlando, Fla., Cassady was a standout at Boone High School, where she was a two-time All-State pitcher and posted a 0.80 career ERA.

Cassady graduated from Liberty in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in sports management.
