BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama softball team completed play in the Samford Bulldog Classic with a perfect 4-0 record after downing Southern Indiana 4-1 and IUPUI 4-0 in the final day of play.
With the wins, UNA is now 10-1 overall.
UNA pitchers
Hannah Price and
Maci Birdyshaw combined to allow just one run on seven hits on the day.
In the opener, Southern Indiana got on the board with a run in the of of the first inning. The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a
Brooke Burback RBI-single that drove in
Felicity Frame.
UNA added two runs in the second on a solo home run by
Georgia Land and an RBI-single by
Sidney Bevis.
The final UNA run came in the fourth when
Mckenzie Patterson doubled and later scored on a Holly Files sacrifice fly.
Price pitched a complete game, allowing one run on two hits. She walked three and struckout five.
In the second game, UNA used a four-run second inning to get all the runs it would need as Birdyshaw threw a five-hit shutout. The runs scored on a two-run double by Patterson, and RBI-single by
Ryleigh Boyett and a sacrifice fly by Bevis.
Birdyshaw improved to 5-0 with the win.
North Alabama hosts Western Michigan on March 4-5 at the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Complex.
