MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The University of North Alabama softball team got all the runs that it would need in the first inning and rolled to a solid 6-1 win over Indiana State in the Blues City Classic. The Lions second game of the day against Pittsburgh was rained out in the third inning with the score tied 0-0.
North Alabama is now 15-2 entering the final game of the tournament Sunday against Memphis.
In the first inning,
Sidney Bevis and
Hailey Jones both singled. With two outs,
Brooke Burback singled to load the bases.
Haven Kirby singled in two runs and
Gracie Benton doubled in another to put UNA on top 3-0.
The Lions pushed their lead to 6-0 with three more runs in the fourth inning. Kirby walked and scored on another RBI-double by Benton.
Felicity Frame singled to score Benton and she then scored on a Bevis RBI-single to make it 6-0.
The Sycamores got a run in the bottom of the fourth but that was it.
Maci Birdyshaw started and went four innings for the Lions to get the win and improve to 7-1. She allowed one run on six hits.
Mariyn Waterman pitched three scoreless innings in relief to earn her first save.
