UNA PITCHERS STRIKEOUT 16 BULLDOGS IN SOFTBALL WIN

FLORENCE, Ala. -- North Alabama scored two runs in the first inning and UNA pitchers struckout 16 Alabama A&M batters as the Lions held on for a 3-1 softball win over the Bulldogs at the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Complex.
With the win, North Alabama is now 19-8 on the season, while A&M dropped to 14-11.

Sidney Bevis drew a walk in the first Hailey Jones followed with a single. Georgia Land then singled in a run, pushing her current hitting streak to 10 straight games. Brooke Burback added an RBI-single to make it 2-0.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the fourth as Venice Sanders singled and later scored on a RBI-double by Serena Herbranson.

UNA added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth as Mckenzie Patterson walked and eventually scored on a Sidney Bevis sacrifice fly. It was Bevis' 18th RBI of the season, which leads the Lions, and was her 14th RBI that has come with two outs.

UNA starting pitcher Elena Escobar (5-2) got the win, allowing no runs or hits over two innings with five strikeouts.
Hannah Price then pitched three innings of relief, allowing a run on two hits while striking out six. Maci Birdyshaw earned her first save of the season, holding the Bulldogs scoreless over the final two innings with five strikeouts.

UNA had eight hits in the game, led by Land with three.

The Lions host a weekend ASUN Conference series against Eastern Kentucky, starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
