NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- North Alabama held an eight point lead at halftime but Lipscomb used a strong second half rebounding effort to knock off the Lions 63-53 in the quarterfinal round of the ASUN Conference Tournament at Allen Arena.
North Alabama led 15-11 after the first quarter and 31-23 at the half. The Lions still led after three periods at 44-43, but that would be the last time they held the lead.
Lipscomb, 20-11, out-rebounded UNA 31-13 in the second half and took advantage of several second chance opportunities to catch the Lions.
Up 14 points in the second quarter, UNA looked like it might have a chance to advance to the ASUN Conference semifinals for the first time, but shot just 30 percent from the floor and hit just seven of 30 three-point attempts.
North Alabama sophomore
Skyler Gill led the Lions effort with 18 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocked shots. The two-time ASUN Defensive Player of the Year pushed her season blocked shot total to 85, further extending her school record.
No other Lion scored in double-figures. Freshman
Emma Kate Tittle had eight points.
Lipscomb out-rebounded UNA 52-33 for the game.
North Alabama is now 15-15 overall.
The Lions were seeking their first ASUN Conference Tournament win since downing Stetson in the first round of the 2019-20 event.
