Maci Birdyshaw and
Hannah Price threw back-to-back shutouts as the Lions completed an ASUN Conference softball sweep of Kennesaw State, 11-0 and 1-0.
UNA's
Elena Escobar also shutout the Owls in a 5-0 win on Thursday night. In 19 innings pitched in the series, UNA pitchers allowed no runs and just 14 total hits to KSU. It marks the first time that the Lions had shutout an ASUN opponent in an entire series.
With the sweep, UNA is now 24-9 overall and 6-6 in ASUN Conference play.
In the opener, the Lions scored in four of the five innings with a run in the first inning, two in the second, two in the fourth and six in the fifth.
Sidney Bevis went 3-for-5 in the game with two runs scored and five runs batted in, while
Haven Kirby hit her fourth home run of the season. Eight different UNA players scored at least one run in the game.
It was UNA's sixth run-rule win of the season and second in conference play.
Birdyshaw improved to 9-4 with the shutout, pitching five innings and allowing just five hits and one walk, while striking out four.
The second game was scoreless heading to the sixth inning when
Mckenzie Patterson drew a leadoff walk,
Sidney Bevis followed with a single and
Hailey Jones singled to drive in Patterson for the game's only score.
UNA had six hits in the game and left six runners on base.
Price (5-3) got the win, scattering five hits while walking one and striking out six.
North Alabama will host North Florida in a three-game ASUN series at the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Complex beginning on April 15.
