CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (February 18, 2024) – For the first time this season, the University of North Alabama softball team was unable to get any run production, closing the Chattanooga Challenge with a 5-0 loss at Chattanooga on Sunday in Tennessee.
The Mocs scored four early runs and added one more in the fifth to close the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, improving to 6-4 on the season. Meanwhile, the Lions move to 7-3 on the season and still finish the tournament with three wins over five games.
The Lions had four hits, including a pair from
Jaiden Farnetti in her first start of the season. Farnetti is now 4-for-4 at the plate over five appearances to start the season. The other two hits were doubles from infielders
Haven Kirby and
Ryleigh Boyett.
Peja Goold got the start in the circle for Chattanooga, while
Emma Koeneke made her first UNA start. Goold got the complete game win, while junior transfer
Cassidy Duskin entered in relief and completed 5;1 innings with just one run allowed. Duskin now owns a 1.31 ERA — down from her 2.45 ERA entering the day.
