Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (March 13, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team added another win to their streak Wednesday afternoon, defeating Alabama A&M on the road in Huntsville, 5-2.

The first of three road duals for the Lions this week, North Alabama improved its program-record win total after getting the early lead in doubles. UNA started the day with a doubles sweep from flights one and three and added four-straight singles wins for the ninth win of the year.

UNA broke the program win record in a 4-0 sweep of Jacksonville State last time out, surpassing the mark of seven wins from 2023 in UNA Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido-Rivas first year at the helm.

Six Lions added wins to their records, with senior Kalais Going, sophomore Stanislava Bobrovnikova and sophomore Valeria San Miguel leading the pack with two wins across singles and doubles. Freshman Emma Ansorge and senior Marta Torres added to the Lions' tally with two wins in the singles portion, while junior Anoek Pruijmboom grabbed an early win in doubles with San Miguel.

In doubles, San Miguel/Pruijmboom grabbed the first win with their third-flight, 6-0 win over the Bulldogs' Hannah Nagpall and Sofia Sotelo Raya. The top flight pair of Bobrovnikova/Going won their match against Ntokozo Zungu and Ariadna Ondo Cerezo to give UNA the one-point lead heading into singles.

Bobrovnikova and San Miguel continued their winning ways in singles, with freshman Emma Ansorge and senior Marta Torres also victorious for their first wins of the day.

Ansorge would take the first win from the second flight, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Camila Ruiz Diaz. Bobrovnikova followed with a quick match from the top flight, victorious over A&M's Zungu, 6-1, 6-1.

The Lions clinched the team victory in UNA's third flight singles match, as San Miguel defeated the Bulldogs' Alice Owegi, 6-4, 6-1. UNA's final win of the day came from the fourth flight with Torres beating Gabrielle Henderson, 6-3, 6-1.

UNA's road swing continues in Florida, with the Lions set to face Stetson and FGCU on March 15 and 17.
