DELAND, Fla. (March 15, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team won the top three flights in the first Atlantic Sun Conference dual of the season to the Stetson Hatters Friday, but lost by a 4-3 final in DeLand, Fla.

UNA moved to 9-4 with the loss but nearly changed the outcome after battling back in the final matches. Stetson held on and improved to 11-2 overall, 1-0 in conference play, 7-0 at home and 10-0 in the last 10 matches.

The Hatters took the first four matches, winning the doubles point and opening singles with two early wins. North Alabama responded with two-straight wins from sophomore Lachlan Brain and freshman Izan Orgiles to cut the Stetson lead to one. Brain beat Stetson's Lucas Olivier 6-4, 6-2 from the top flight before Orgiles used three sets to defeat Eder Blanco from flight three.

The fourth flight saw North Alabama freshman Birtan Duran fight from a set down to force a decisive third, but he was defeated by Tim Gennes to clinch the win for Stetson. Freshman Alberto Altur won the final match for UNA's third point, needing three sets to beat Stetson's Ervin Haris Eminefendic in his return the lineup

UNA hopes for improved results in its second ASUN matchup against the FGCU Eagles set for Sunday, March 17. First serve from Fort Myers is set for 12 p.m. CT.
