FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 17, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team concluded their Florida road swing with a 5-2 loss to FGCU Sunday afternoon.

UNA returns to Florence after its second-straight Atlantic Sun Conference dual. The Lions started strong early by taking the doubles point, securing a 6-4 win from senior Marta Torres and freshman Emma Ansorge and a 7-5 victory from junior Anoek Pruijmboom and freshman Ada Karabacak. The Eagles went on to take five of six singles flights en route to their third ASUN win.

Torres finished with two wins in the dual, adding a sixth-flight win over the Eagles' Amelia Kopel. The Barcelona, Spain native forced a third set after dropping the opening set and battling to a second-set tiebreaker win. She overcame the slow start to win her seventh singles match this season, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

Ansorge/Torres won their second doubles match as a pair, while Pruijmboom/Karabacak remain undefeated in doubles at 4-0. Karabacak has yet to lose a doubles match, sporting a 9-0 record this season. Pruijmboom also continues to excel in doubles play with her eighth-straight win.

Ansorge was able to force a third set in her singles match but fell short to FGCU's Isabella Colmenares, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. The Eagles won the remaining four flights in straight-sets.

UNA's next dual will be against Kennesaw State on Friday, March 22. First serve from Kennesaw will be at 10 a.m. CT.
