JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 24, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team was defeated by North Florida Sunday afternoon, 7-0, in Jacksonville, Fla.
UNA wrapped up a two-match road trip with a 1-1 record. The Lions opened with a dual at Kennesaw State, defeating the Owls 4-3 for the first win over KSU in program history. The match was originally scheduled to be played Friday, March 22 but was postponed and rescheduled to Saturday, March 23 due to inclement weather.
In the loss to UNF, sophomore Lachlan Brain and freshman Izan Orgiles had the lone doubles win for UNA. The duo won their seventh match together with a 6-4 win over UNF's Breno Marques and Andreas Scott. The top two double flights came down to tiebreaks, but North Florida took the early team lead with eventual wins.
The Ospreys took all six singles matches, improving to 2-0 in league play. Junior Nazar Fedoryshyn, freshman Birtan Duran and Orgiles all played to three sets, but dropped the final frame.
The Lions hosts EKU for their home ASUN opener Thursday, March 28. First serve from the UNA Tennis Complex is scheduled for 11 a.m.
